"APTE" method
What is the "APTE" method?

The "APTE" method is a solving problems method. It incorporates many tools used by value management. Among these tools are the main ones: functional analysis and value analysis. The method can be applied to the resolution of ALL types of problem.

Why use the APTE method?

Where classical improvement methods, known as "intuitive", offer gains of 1 to 2% by identifying 50 to 60% of the functions of a product, the APTE method offers significant gains ranging from 10 to 40% by identifying all the functions of the product as well as the risks.

Gains by type of analysis

5 to 15% on a value analysis of a process.
10 to 20% on a value analysis of an existing product.
20 to 40% on a value analysis of a new design.
25 to 50% in value management.

Origin

The "APTE" method was formalized by Bertrand de la Bretesche in his book "The APTE method: Value Analysis Functional Analysis".
It relies heavily on the value analysis defined by Lawrence D. Miles.

It is suitable for both design and improvement of products, industrial processes, equipment or tertiary processes. The best results are obtained when it intervenes before the development. In a simplified way, APTE integrates two phases:

In the context of the "APTE" method, some terms lose their current meaning and their definition must be specified. This is the case of the words below:

Product:
The term Product may, in some situations, take on a general meaning, more extensive; it can designate a manufactured object, an equipment, a component, a manufacturing process, a service .... To put it another way, we can say that it designates the object of the current study.

Value :
The term value refers to the expected qualities of a product regardless of its cost.
